Cari Amici e Sostenitori,
in questo periodo di festa, lo staff e il Consiglio di EvK2CNR desiderano porgere a voi e alle vostre famiglie i più sinceri auguri per un sereno periodo festivo e un Anno Nuovo pieno di speranza e realizzazioni.
Il momento dei saluti e dei bilanci è per noi particolarmente significativo. Proprio in occasione della recente Giornata Mondiale delle Montagne (11 dicembre), abbiamo tracciato il percorso del 2025: un altro anno intenso di scienza, cooperazione e sensibilizzazione dedicato alla tutela dei fragili ecosistemi montani di tutto il mondo. Le attività svolte confermano, ancora una volta, che investire nella ricerca e nello sviluppo sostenibile delle montagne non è una scelta, ma una necessità per l'intero pianeta.
Vogliamo condividere con voi alcuni traguardi di questo anno straordinario, ringraziandovi per il sostegno che rende possibile il nostro lavoro.
IL NOSTRO 2025 IN PILLOLE: SCIENZA, FORMAZIONE E COMUNITÀ
Un anno per i ghiacciai: Siamo stati in prima linea nel lancio dell'Anno Internazionale per la Conservazione dei Ghiacciai (UNESCO/WMO) e abbiamo presentato a Islamabad, con Asian Development Bank, il fondamentale inventario dei 13.032 ghiacciai del Pakistan.
Spantik Lab, il laboratorio a cielo aperto: Abbiamo lanciato un progetto pionieristico sul ghiacciaio Chogo Lungma, unendo raccolta dati all'avanguardia (stazioni, droni) a programmi formativi per ricercatori locali.
La voce della scienza globale: Al Living Planet Symposium dell'ESA abbiamo portato dati cruciali, mentre in Nepal la missione del Prof. Lovari ha proseguito il monitoraggio del leopardo delle nevi nel Parco del Sagarmatha.
Investire sul futuro locale: Dalla formazione di 35 future Guide d'Alta Quota pakistane (con Soccorso Alpino e Guide Alpine Italiane) alla realizzazione di strutture per l'ecoturismo sostenibile in Valle di Thalle, il nostro impegno si concretizza nella crescita delle comunità.
Potenziare le capacità: Con "Water for Development" abbiamo inaugurato nuovi laboratori universitari e corsi in tecnologie geospaziali, per lasciare competenze durature.
Riconoscimenti e dialogo: La partecipazione al Consiglio Esecutivo della WMO e i prestigiosi riconoscimenti assegnati al nostro Presidente Agostino Da Polenza (Tamgha-e-Pakistan) e al Responsabile Paese Maurizio Gallo ("Ambassador of Pakistan Achievement Award") testimoniano il valore della nostra cooperazione trentennale.
Questi risultati sono il frutto di una visione che poggia su pilastri indissolubili: Governance Ambientale, Conservazione Attiva, Ricerca Scientifica Strategica ed Empowerment delle Comunità.
UNO SGUARDO AL FUTURO: LA RIGENERAZIONE DELLA PIRAMIDE
Il 2025 ha gettato basi solide anche per il domani. Grazie al rinnovato accordo con il CNR, proseguiamo con determinazione il percorso verso la rigenerazione del Laboratorio-Osservatorio Piramide, gioiello unico per la ricerca scientifica in alta quota, affinché possa continuare ad accogliere ricercatori da tutto il mondo.
L'anno che si conclude ci ricorda l'importanza delle montagne come ecosistemi preziosi e risorse vitali per la sostenibilità globale. Il nostro augurio più grande, per queste festività e per il 2026, è che la collaborazione tra scienza, istituzioni e comunità possa crescere ancora, per proteggere insieme queste bellezze fragili e indispensabili.

Dear Friends and Supporters, During this festive season, the staff and Board of EvK2CNR would like to extend their sincerest wishes to you and your families for a peaceful holiday season and a New Year full of hope and accomplishments. This time of greetings and reflection is particularly meaningful for us. On the recent International Mountain Day (December 11), we charted our course for 2025: another intense year of science, cooperation, and awareness-raising dedicated to protecting fragile mountain ecosystems around the world. Our activities confirm, once again, that investing in research and sustainable development in the mountains is not a choice, but a necessity for the entire planet. We would like to share with you some of the achievements of this extraordinary year and thank you for your support, which makes our work possible. OUR 2025 IN A NUTSHELL: SCIENCE, EDUCATION, AND COMMUNITY A year for glaciers: We were at the forefront of the launch of the International Year of Glacier Conservation (UNESCO/WMO) and presented the fundamental inventory of Pakistan's 13,032 glaciers in Islamabad, together with the Asian Development Bank. Spantik Lab, the open-air laboratory: We launched a pioneering project on the Chogo Lungma glacier, combining cutting-edge data collection (stations, drones) with training programs for local researchers. The voice of global science: We brought crucial data to ESA's Living Planet Symposium, while in Nepal, Prof. Lovari's mission continued monitoring snow leopards in Sagarmatha Park. Investing in the local future: From training 35 future Pakistani High Altitude Guides (with Italian Mountain Rescue and Alpine Guides) to building sustainable ecotourism facilities in the Thalle Valley, our commitment is reflected in the growth of communities. Empowering skills: With “Water for Development,” we have inaugurated new university laboratories and courses in geospatial technologies to leave lasting skills. Recognition and dialogue: Participation in the WMO Executive Council and the prestigious awards given to our President Agostino Da Polenza (Tamgha-e-Pakistan) and Country Manager Maurizio Gallo (“Ambassador of Pakistan Achievement Award”) testify to the value of our thirty years of cooperation. These results are the fruit of a vision based on indissoluble pillars: Environmental Governance, Active Conservation, Strategic Scientific Research, and Community Empowerment. A LOOK TO THE FUTURE: THE REGENERATION OF THE PYRAMID 2025 has also laid solid foundations for tomorrow. Thanks to the renewed agreement with the CNR, we are continuing with determination on the path towards the regeneration of the Pyramid Laboratory-Observatory, a unique jewel for scientific research at high altitude, so that it can continue to welcome researchers from all over the world. The year that is coming to an end reminds us of the importance of mountains as precious ecosystems and vital resources for global sustainability. Our greatest wish for this holiday season and for 2026 is that the collaboration between science, institutions, and communities will continue to grow, so that together we can protect these fragile and indispensable beauties.
