Skardu/Gilgit, Pakistan – Si è conclusa con grande successo la serie di training e l’avvio dei laboratori specialistici nelle università del Gilgit-Baltistan, realizzata nell’ambito del progetto Water for Development, finanziato da MAECI attraverso (Ambasciata italiana a Islambad) e AICS/AICS Islamabad e implementato da EvK2CNR e UNDP.
La missione, che ha visto impegnati ricercatori e professori da alcune delle più importanti università italiane, ha portato alla piena attivazione di tre laboratori permanenti e alla realizzazione di quattro corsi di formazione avanzati in collaborazione con la Karakorum International University (KIU) di Gilgit e l’University of Baltistan (UOBS) di Skardu.
I laboratori, ora operativi e allestiti con apparecchiature tecniche d’avanguardia, sono dedicati a settori cruciali per lo sviluppo sostenibile della regione:
Fitopatologia: per combattere le malattie delle piante e supportare la sicurezza alimentare.
Zootecnia e Fauna Selvatica: per migliorare la gestione del patrimonio animale.
Qualità dell’Acqua: per garantire il monitoraggio della risorsa idrica e la salute pubblica.
Ai momenti inaugurali sono seguiti corsi di formazione intensivi, progettati su misura dopo un’attenta analisi dei bisogni del territorio. I docenti dell’Università Politecnica delle Marche e dell’Università di Milano hanno guidato i training nei tre laboratori, mentre la Prof.ssa Maria Teresa Melis dell’Università di Cagliariha condotto un quarto corso di cinque giorni sulle tecnologie geospaziali (GPS, droni e telerilevamento) per il monitoraggio ambientale.
L’iniziativa ha riscosso un notevole riscontro sulla stampa pakistana, con un'ampia copertura mediatica che ha sottolineato il valore di questa cooperazione scientifica e formativa per il futuro del Gilgit-Baltistan.

Skardu/Gilgit, Pakistan – The series of training sessions and the launch of specialized laboratories at the universities of Gilgit-Baltistan have been successfully concluded. The initiative was carried out within the framework of the Water for Development project, financed by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) through the Italian Embassy in Islamabad and AICS/AICS Islamabad, and implemented by EvK2CNR and UNDP. The mission, which involved researchers and professors from leading Italian universities, led to the full activation of three permanent laboratories and the delivery of four advanced training courses in collaboration with the Karakorum International University (KIU) in Gilgit and the University of Baltistan (UOBS) in Skardu. The laboratories, now operational and equipped with state-of-the-art technical equipment, are dedicated to areas crucial for the sustainable development of the region: Phytopathology: to combat plant diseases and support food security. Animal Husbandry and Wildlife: to improve the management of animal resources. Water Quality: to ensure water resource monitoring and public health. The inaugural events were followed by intensive training courses, tailored after a careful analysis of the region's specific needs. Professors from the Polytechnic University of Marche and the University of Milanled the training in the three laboratories, while Prof. Maria Teresa Melis from the University of Cagliariconducted a fourth five-day course on geospatial technologies (GPS, drones, and remote sensing) for environmental monitoring. The initiative received significant attention in the Pakistani press, with extensive media coverage highlighting the value of this scientific and educational cooperation for the future of Gilgit-Baltistan.
